Snowboard Kids For The Nintendo 64
November 22nd, 2008The powder's fresh, the sun's shining and the warm rays are beating down on the slopes. What could be more important than strapping on the board and hitting the hills?
This game mixes up Mario Kart 64 and 1080 Snowboarding to provide a new take on the snowboard theme. It's cartoon style combines some intensely competitive snowboard action. Play Tommy, Jam, Nancy, Linda, or Slash and choose from nine different boards all of which you can customize.
Each board is a different style with a different skill level. You can repaint the deck and choose your designs. You can earn more prestigious boards as you advance through the competition.
There are five different play modes - Skill Games, Time Attack, Multiplayer Battle, and Battle Race. Then there is the nine different tracks and all sorts of terrain to try out.
There are also an impressive 36 tricks you can learn. By then you'll be ready to show off. You should also checkout the cool rumble pack effects.
Be warned - if you are looking for a really realistic game this isn't the one you want. Snowboard kid is an excellent game incorporating graphics and game play like you would see in Mario Car. It's cute and it's fun but it's not as realistic as other games.
It's a 64 megabit cartridge with one to four players that can all play at the same time. Choose from one of the five characters and learn how to snowboard.
If you are looking for words to describe this game it would have been better called Mario Kart in the Snow. It's cute, it's simple, the characters are kiddie like, the worlds are color filled, and overall the game is more about racing then competitions which gives it a different edge than 1080 Degrees Snowboarding.
There are plenty of characters to choose from each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The two games are different. The 1080 has very realistic figures where the Kids version can't get much more cartoonish with those big funky noses. One rider could be fat and slow but have fabulous cornering while the other might be overly skinny and great on the pike.
The graphics are very colorful and the transitions are nice and smooth. Racdym was the developer and no one is sure if he used patented RDA. The impressive coloring stands out nicely in the caves and in places such as when the snow glistens from the setting sun.
Play is pretty straight forward - in fact if you've ever given Mario Kart a go then you already know all about the basics. Best to have a look at the instructions before you get going.
Snowboard kids is a great choice if you are looking for a game for your Nintendo 64. Why not have some fun quality time at home rather than on the slopes. Heck why not practice your moves.
