Decompressing RAR files

January 6th, 2009
  • I've found that when I try to extract folders from an RAR file (by browsing into the file and copying the folders to another share), XBMC will not extract files from within compressed directories. It seems to create the directory structure that exists inside the RAR file, but doesn't extract anything into those directories.

  • try a newer cvs

  • Were you ever able to get this working?

I have XBMC set up at several sites, and have VPN access to each network. Transferring each individual file to upgrade XBMC to the latest version takes a really long time. I'm looking for a quicker way to upgrade remotely.

Do you think it is possible to write a python script that will allow me to upload a RAR file of the latest build of XBMC, and have the python script extract the contained files to the right place to upgrade XBMC to the latest version?
    (/f/apps/XBMC)

I think it would be much quicker to transfer one large RAR file and extract it locally than it is to upload my compiled files one by one. Perhaps something like this should be built in to make getting the latest version easier.

Now with the UserProfiles directory it seems like it should be easy to upgrade everything while keeping the users's settings intact.
