  • How did the french and indian war change the realtionship between the colonies and britain?

  • heres the sweet and short version:
Since it costed a lotta time and money to protect the colonies from the french, britains national debt was enormous. it was essentially French+indians VS America+Britain. so to help bring it down they tried to impose taxes on the colonies. the colonies were furious b/c (no taxation w/o representation) they were being forced to pay taxes that they didnt have a say in.

this led to colonies boycotting british goods and rioting.
britain responded by putting in more taxes and placing soldiers in the colonies to 'protect' them but the colonists felt they were merely there to keep them under control.

  • it gave the colonists a sense of independence from britain when they learned that they could defend themselves without help from the british army. the way the british officers treated colonial soldiers (with disrespect) also caused tension among the two nations.

  • the British did not keep their promises to the American Indians and instituted new unfavorable trade policies. These actions sparked Pontiacâ ™s War in 1763. The British and American Indians continued to struggle over the land. Eventually the British won and settlers pushed most of the Indians westward.

At the end of the French and Indian War Great Britain had a vast new empire to administer. The relationship between the British colonies in North America and their mother country began to change. The British government enacted policies that set
the stage for the American Revolution.
