The Atrocities of a Pale Rider John Negroponte- by Celerino :: Mexican Envoy Highly Critical of U.S. Role in Anti-Drug Effort (March 23, 2007) "Claiming to be the 'world’s leading drug policy newsletter,' the Drug http://www.drugwar.com/castillonegroponte.shtmHOME | For women are violated, children are killed and cancer is everywhere in the world, people often talk about God’s role in such atrocities. Saint Thomas Aquinas discusses this question in part of his book titled the Summa Theologica. In his book he demonstrates the relation of necessary and contingent being, and provides a philosophical explanation on the issue of evil in the world. Aquinas starts with some introductory suppositions. He says that necessary existence possesses no potentiality and in this, God’s entity and his being are the same thing, because God is entirely simple it is also called divine simplicity. God has no body and he is not a material, and the things he does and how he does them and his essence are all the same. For God, being a necessary being, does not have the ability to be influenced by contingency, we can notice that all God does is necessary. God is altogether simple. This certainly creates a problem with such phenomenon as contingency. Further, the creation of contingent being by a necessary being and the fact that he knows what we do and influences our doings evokes the problem of natural and moral evil, and what is the root of these horrible occurrences.
The analysis of this problem Saint Thomas Aquinas starts with the God’s knowledge which in his opinion is the cause of all things. This is defined as divine knowledge. God is the origin of all things that happen in the world, he knows what he causes and vice versa he causes what he knows. It means that God is the author of everything that happens. God knows what he causes and does it anyway, and consequently he wills it. So we come to a conclusion that if God knows what he causes and his will and his knowledge are the same thing, then this all that he knows and wills contains among other thing evil.
